COMMONWEALTH GAMES
The Queen’s Baton Relay
heads to Worcester
Worcester is getting ready to welcome the
exciting arrival of the Birmingham 2022 Queen’s
Baton Relay next month.
In the build-up to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games,
the Baton is travelling the length and breadth of the UK, before
arriving at the Games’ Opening Ceremony on 28 July.
Worcester will officially welcome the Relay on the afternoon of Friday
22 July as it visits locations across the city, carried by a succession of
Batonbearers who have been nominated by their communities.
The Baton will visit the Cathedral and New Road cricket ground,
cross the River Severn and make a memorable visit to Worcester
Racecourse – see the full route on the map.
Its trip through the city will climax with an evening celebration at
The Arches – Worcester.
The Mayor of Worcester, Cllr Adrian Gregson, said: “We are very
excited to be part of the Baton Relay and hope that residents and
visitors will turn out to line its route on this special day – and enjoy
all the fun activities on offer.”
The Queen’s Baton Relay began at Buckingham Palace on 7 October
2021, when The Queen placed her message to the Commonwealth
into the Baton. Since then, the Relay has visited many Commonwealth
nations and territories before returning to the UK.
